Mind-Blowing: Europe’s Top 15 Cities Revealed

If you’re planning a long-awaited European vacation, it’s time to include the continent’s cultural capitals on your itinerary. Europe’s best cities, with their world-class art, rich history, and exceptional dining, continue to captivate travelers, as revealed by the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards survey. Each year, readers share their opinions on various travel experiences, including top cities. The ratings encompass sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and overall value.

Spain secured three spots among our readers’ favorite cities: Cordoba (No. 15), Madrid (No. 11), and Seville (No. 3). Seville, in particular, impressed visitors with its spontaneous charm. One voter exclaimed, “What a great city to get lost in! The people are friendly, and you never know what surprises await you. We happened upon outdoor light shows and festivals just wandering around the city.”

Portugal’s capital, Lisbon, and its second-largest city, Porto, were also highly regarded, ranking at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. Travelers were enamored with Lisbon’s culture, hospitality, and perfect weather. The authenticity and craftsmanship of Portuguese goods were also appreciated, with readers noting that purchases made in Portugal were something to be proud of when taking them home.

Several Central and Eastern European cities made the list as well. Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, claimed the sixth spot, while Kraków in Poland came in at No. 9. Voters praised Ljubljana for its beauty and enjoyed guided walking tours of the old town. Turkey, a country bridging Europe and Asia, secured two cities on the list: Istanbul (No. 2) and Bodrum (No. 4).

However, it was Florence that reclaimed its position as readers’ most loved city, having secured the top spot in both 2020 and 2019. The allure of Florence continues to captivate travelers, making it a perennial favorite.
